This question is for parents who Do vaccinate their kids….
How did you decide that vaccines were right for your family? did you do research on the debateable questions out there?

* Are they really effective?
* How much testing do they go through, have they really tested them on newborn infants?
* Are there long term effects?
* Are childhood diseases really fatal?
* What are the effects of animal tissue mixing with human's blood and tissue?
* Is it moral to allow aborted fetus cells to be used in the ingredients of vaccines?
* How long at best are vaccines really good for if they are effective?

Did you research these things? I appreciate all serious answers from parents on this issue, thank you.
forgot one……
*how many vaccines did I recieve as a child compared to the current vaccine scedule?
also, if you have any information out there that is PRO vaccines that is not put out there by the government I would be much obliged to see it, thanks again :0)

Didn't even question it, the kids just got vaccinated.

I didn't research anything. My doctor recommends the vaccines and I get them vaccinated.

I was vaccinated and I'm fine.

I don't know why parents don't get their children vaccinated. By law, before they enter school they must be vaccinated. Vaccines protect the children from diseases that could be fatal or make them really ill. Why wouldn't you?

Yes- and our son has autism. He didn't get it from vaccines- he was receiving his 8 week shots at 12 months- and was showing signs of autism at the earliest: 6 months of age.

    Are childhood diseases really fatal?
Some are yes. I would much rather tolerate side effects from a shot than polio or other diseases.

The rest- researched- and went on anyway…again, my children are my life.

Why do you care??? Take care of your own…I do a great job with mine.

Edit: I teach in a very poor area of the city where I have been in contact with HIV, AIDS, and Hep B. I protect myself and my children. No vax for HIV and AIDS- but the other there is- and I receive the Hep B vaccine each year. Many of my students are not vaccinated and are missing quite a few until they begin school- who knows what I come in contact with- I don't want this getting passed to my own children.

As well, we do a selective vax schedule- more spread out. You can find it on:

You seem astute on the nature of vax's…google the info in which you are searching.

Hi! I did not do serious research (via book or online) but I did follow the pediatrician and CDC's guidelines for getting kids vaccinated. Parents can wait to get their kids vaccinated but they are going to have to be vaccinated before going to a school or daycare anyway so I figure, why not do it when they are young? That way they won't even remember it and by the time they are really exposed to other kids they are almost all done with the shots and will (hopefully) be in better health. My son is now one year old and he is totally up to date, it is hard hearing him cry but I know from healthcare professionals that the side effects are minimal and that I am totally doing him a favor. I would suggest you go to the CDC's website for info. and a suggested schedule of childhood vaccinations.

I did research these things, and decided NOT to vaccinate as a result of what I learned.

I respect parents who have done their own research and decide to go ahead and vaccinate on the schedule (although I don't actually know any, lol. Everyone I know personally who has researced vaccines has either decided to selectively vaccinate or to not vax at all.) But I can't for the life of me understand how parents can let someone give their kids that many shots without even wanting to know for yourself what the risks are (because there are risks to ANY medical procedure) vs. the benefits. Sorry but I'm just not that trusting of the pharmaceutical industry to believe without question that they have my children's best interest in mind.

I didn't research anything and to be honest I didn't even have to think about it. I come from a family who vaccinates all the kids and I can't imagine me not vaccinating my own. Kids have been vaccinated for a long time now and I believe they've done more good than harm. I trust my childs pediatrician and I would rather take the chance protecting my kid from many diseases than to put them at risk for all of those diseases because there is controversy behind them. I do get nervous sometimes when he's vaccinated and watch him like a hawk for a few days afterwards for any changes but I think everyone does that. But in the end it's every parents personal decision and only they can make it.

My kids are 4 and 2 and have had all their shots up to the last year to 6 months. I never really thought about it before. I had heard that some kids were geting sick from them and things they thought. But I though if it was very bad you would hear a lot more about it. Me and a friend were talking the other week and she told me about her grandson who use to talk and things untill he got is shots now he stoped. I never knew a lot of things you were just talking about untill I came home and started looking it up. I do not think I will be giving my kids anymore. I wish I really had known about this stuff before. Like I said i though tyou would hear about them recalling them and changeing them if htey were that bad. Look at this web page on the left hand row there is a spot that says vaccines click on the things and read about them. I did not know about the abbourted babys untill last weekend. There is all so a site that tells you how you can get out of it. Here are both of them

    http://talkaboutcuringautism.org/index.htm

Your child dose not have to have their shots to go to school this website tells you what you have to do if you do not want to get them shots. I don't think I will be geting my next baby any shots.

Well, unlike SOME people who blindly follow whatever random advice given by their pediatricians, I DO research what I put into my children's bodies. Hence our decision to selectively vaccinate our children.

Bottom line, the long term side effects of vaccines, such as chicken pox, are UNKNOWN. Chicken pox is a relatively harmless sickness, I bet everyone on this board had it as a child. I would rather my child have it naturally.

Same with measles and mumps, and the whole austism/mercury theory. It is not proven yet, but it is not DISPROVEN. They thought cigarettes were safe 50 years ago, did they not?

If you do your research, you will find such a small percentage of measles and mumps even end up being hospitalized, let alone being fatal.

Bring on the thumbs down, but these are the choices I am making for my children.

By the way, good for you for researching the vaccines BEFORE you make a decision. I think the stupidest thing someone can do is just get their child vaccinated without researching. Doctors aren't the be-all-and-end-all of everything. They give out poor, misinformed, ignorant advice ALL THE TIME.

I've done alot of research on this and have decided to make my sons vaccinations at longer intervals. 1 in 150 kids get autism these days, 1 in 80 are boys. Those numbers are too high to take that chance. I gave my son the 2 month and 4 month shots on schedule and am waiting till he is 1 year to give him his next set. Then for his mmr shot I will get him immunized when he is 2.5 years old instead of 1 year old. Just do your research and do what you feel is best for your child.

When we were kids we got 10 shots, now it's something like 36. As for chickenpox, we all had them and we are alive.

I think you should be asking parents who decided not to immunize their kids. They are the ones doing the research. I find it hard to believe how many parents just do it because the doctor says so.

I have 3 boys – 1 fully vaccinated, 1 partially vaccinated and one not at all.

First son had reactions to the vaccines and his Ped said it was normal – they weren't. He has issues to this day that I attirbute to the vaccines. Second son had simialr issues – I started researching and reading everything I could get my hands on 13 yrs ago. As a result, I made a choice to not vaccinate #3. Good choice for us – he has none of the issues my other 2 have.

Another poster stated that it is the law to have children vaccinated – that is a myth. They do not have to have vaccinations to get into any public school in the country. ALl parents need to do is sign a waiver (on the back of the same form used to fill out what vaccines they did have) stating that you do not vaccinate. That is all. The Govt cannot force you to put something into your child like that.

The best thing to do is to research and look at all the pros and cons. There are many childhood diseases that are truly not fatal in a normally healthy kid. Chickenpox for one…

Best thing to do if you do choose to vaccinate is get them spread out more – not all at one time like they do – and have them use the doses that must be made up at the time rather than the combos that sit in preservatives. This takes a lot of the risk of side effects out of the equation…

Good luck in your research…it can be quite confusing. It was when I did mine. Make a choice you are comfortable with – not just because the Dr told you too…they can be wrong you know. :)

I have tried to research this and can not find any information to make an informed decision at all.
The anti vac websites make claims of this and that and give no info on how they came up with the stats ……
on the other hand the pro vac (like the paers given at the Pediatrician ) do not give ANY info at ALL other than a link to where to go for assistance if your child DOES get seriously injured from Vaccines …..
Really SCARY stuff ….. Autism is up from 1 in 150,000 children to 1 in 155 children …….
    something is going on

My doctor has children the same age as mine and if she vaccinates her kids I will do the same plus have you heard of the measles outbreak going on right now it is the largest in years and so far thankfully no one has died yet but I would never in a million years want to put my children in that kind of risk. Yes I have researched it also I am not a sheep just blindly following my doctor.

Are they effective? Yes they are.

How much testing do they go through, have they really tested them on newborn infants? Years and they are still testing new ones and improving old ones all the time.

Are there long term effects? Other than their protection not really.

Are childhood diseases really fatal? Some in and of them selves no but they open the door to complications that are. Polio, whooping cough and others like them can be fatal though.

What are the effects of animal tissue mixing with human's blood and tissue? Not much.

Is it moral to allow aborted fetus cells to be used in the ingredients of vaccines?Well no, but they are not used in that way. Vaccines are antibodies or dead viruses and fetus do not have an immune system to create them.

How long at best are vaccines really good for if they are effective? Depends on the vaccine but the flu is a yearly shot and most others are every ten yrs or so.

I vaccinate my entire family, even my cat yearly. We are all shot up LOL.

My daughter is 19months old & has gotten all her vaccines besides the MMR, which we are splitting into 3 different shots, atleast 1 month apart.
I work in the healthcare field & believe that all the disease, besides chicken pox ( which I had as a child & it wasn't that bad) can be life threatening.
My daughter did get the chicken pox vaccine & she got a reaction from it (high fever & rash). It was then that I asked myself, "Why did I let her get that vaccine, when in most cases, it's not that serious?" I then began doing more research on other vaccines/diseases; mainly online.
The Hep B is questionable for babies as well. I decided to have my girl get this vaccine since I do work in a hospital; & who knows what I bring home on my skin/clothing. If you don't have the above problem & your child isn't in daycare, then I would say, it should be okay to hold off until school age or later. ( I got this vaccine as an adult due to working in the healthcare field).
Yes, I have done my research on all of the vaccines & believe that most of them can do better good than harm. You choose what you feel is best .
If every person decided not to vaccinate, I could see 20+ yrs down the line, some of the diseases like polio come back in a rampage.
If you have a problem with your drs timeline look up drsear alternative schedule for vaccines. Another alternative is getting one vaccine a month, (instead of clumping them together) ( I believe you can even split up the DTaP); & then pick & choose based on your reasearch, which ones you feel are necessary & when.

Funny you should ask. I have honestly been up the past few nights REALLY researching what are in those vaccines and why/why not to vaccinate. I have this website you might want to look at that shows the negative side of vaccinating.

    1) how effective are they? Well in the US 98% of children are vaccinated but we still have an outbreak of some diseases. Example… my sister was vaccinated for measels and still got them. Many people argue saying things like polio were on the way out BEFORE vaccines came. PLUS they do not test to make sure your body really is immune to these disease… when I became pregnant they THEN tested to see and it showed I was only "half" immune to the measles.

    2) They say years go into the testing… but personally for the vaccines to be "accurate" I think they need to wait a little longer than they do.

    3) Long term affects… I honestly believe that some children do have long term affects but they are not all documented. I was reading that before shots are given to your child you should ask the doctor if your child were to have a serious reaction to the vaccine would they report it? It is easy to get a census or survey to say what you want it to… especially when the FDA are involved and MONEY is involved…

    4) Well obviously things like polio are not good… but really what are the chances of my child getting that now? I read a governement website that said its the people coming over here that could bring the disease… ok WELL why not limit immigration?! Why does my son need to be vaccinated against Hep B at 2 months? The only ways to get Hep B are sex (which come on that is YEARS away for him) and needles/blood transfussion…. What is wrong with the chicken pox? Everyone I know had them it was just part of life… PLUS do people really know what the other vaccines are? Half of them I have never heard of so they cannot be that big of a problem…

    5) You should ask your doctor to see the expiration date on the vaccines. It is your right to ask and if you are going to go through all that trouble you might as well make sure…

As far as your other questions… I have not read that anywhere… but I dont think animal tissue should be mixed w/ human blood… and if fetus cells were being used… I think it is immoral

I have REALLY REALLY been deciding to vaccinate my child or not… I have received A LOT of negative feed back for that… but I believe that infant immune systems are too weak and it would be better to wait longer. I also like the natural remedies that are out there! BUT people are VERY willing to believe that the government has their best interest in mind… scary…

    http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.vaccinetruth.org/GJD3.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.vaccinetruth.org/6_out_of_10,000.htm&h=352&w=334&sz=20&hl=en&start=6&sig2=I1aOK2En50Wbsc1d-VUB3g&tbnid=Xnqu4d3mysnmtM:&tbnh=120&tbnw=114&ei=DaUYSIGcMZDQec2YuPsK&prev=/images%3Fq%3D3%2Bmonth%2Bold%2Bbaby%26gbv%3D2%26hl%3Den

Someone said by law they have to be vaccinated before school… that is not true… it may be "state" ordered but it is not a national law… plus you can opt out because of religious views… I know some people who have… the state has tried to bully them ande doctors have tried to threaten them but their children are about to enter college and are all HEALTHY.

** I am suprised that mothers spend so much time worrying about what they eat while being pregnant (even if it is an old wives tale not to eat something) BUT once their child is born they believe whatever someone tells them and do not research it! And put others down who actually READ different reviews…**
